My husband and I wish to express our concerns regarding the plans for the BTNF expansion in East Jackson. We feel that the forest, wildlife, trails, and quite simply the beauty of this land will not be the same. The Putt-Putt and Cache Creek Trails are extremely popular for the residents of downtown Jackson. It is so convenient for so many to access this area and enjoy exercise and the outdoors without driving or starting an automobile. The small cabin adds charm to this area and is in keeping with the OLD JACKSON Beauty which makes this town and county so very popular with residents and tourist alike.
We would like to think our forest service would be responsible for the preservation of our land and not the development of it. We purchased our home in East Jackson 11 years ago. The most important reason was for the close proximity to the National forest. If the BTNF can expand at their whim, who is to say how long it might be before they need to expand again? The National Forest belongs to the tax payers and should not be developed without much public consideration. There also seems to be no real immediate justification for this extra development. Why the Rush? Everyone is in much too big of a hurry to pass important and lasting decisions that will affect us for many years. We should slow down and think these matters through. Hopefully, there is another way to increase housing density on the already existing land.
A beautiful red fox lives in the winter and naps under the same tree in the middle of the area adjacent to your proposed expansion for buildings next to Henley Road in Jackson. We have photos and love to watch him from our living room windows. As my geologist Grandfather in Montana was instrumental in the formation of the Forest Service, I am quite certain the stewardship mission is not to destroy the forests around Jackson.
The Putt Putt is a playground for moose, deer, foxes, and people of all ages. In 5 years I don’t want to have to hear myself say …Remember when we would hike the Putt Putt and we would see that mama moose with her calf.
Instead, I would rather hear myself say…Jeez, I sure am glad we came to a compromise over the housing plan in 2009!
Wake up and hear the call of the wild!!!!

Please rethink your intentions.
